MacArthur Green is an independent environmental consultancy. We specialise in the provision of hydrology, ecology, ornithology and fisheries consultancy services to large scale commercial developments and the public sector.  Our team consists of a friendly, specialist team that deliver high value work. 

We set up our hydrology team four years ago, and it’s been busy! We have a steady workload covering the undertaking and management of water quality monitoring projects, environmental impact assessments and ecological clerk of works for renewable energy projects across Scotland. In recent years we have also been appointed on two water frameworks (Southern Water via MWH and Welsh Water via Jacobs). We are now looking for a Senior/Principal Hydrologist to join us to build on our successes and lead our hydrology team as it develops and grows.

Job Summary:

Our team has a strong background in environmental assessments and water resources providing integrated hydrological and ecological support to projects across Scotland and the wider UK. We are looking to further strengthen our in-house skills, and expand our delivery of projects that provide important benefits for people and nature, and create a positive legacy in doing so.

We need an experienced and resourceful individual to join our  team. You will be working on complex and stimulating projects that are both diverse and technically demanding. The role will involve working closely with colleagues in our ecology team to provide a comprehensive service to our clients in the renewables, commercial, and infrastructure sectors. As a Senior/Principal Hydrologist you will also be responsible for the project and resource management of a range of work, providing support and development to the wider team.


Reporting directly to the company Directors, you will be responsible for:

- Producing and leading team deliverables.
- Catchment management and environmental impact assessment.
- Technical Reporting including Environmental Statements and water quality monitoring reports.
- Hydrological and water resource modelling 
- Advice on planning requirements and compliance with planning conditions, working closely with our Ecological Clerk of Works.
- Resolving technical hydrological issues on projects.
- Liaison with clients, local authorities and regulators
- Supporting and developing junior team members. 
- Undertake site work including water quality monitoring and hydrological surveys.
- Contribute towards business development and tendering.
- Ensure compliance with company requirements in respect of our core values, mission, business operations, governance, quality, safety and environmental management.


Essential skills and experience include:

- At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in a work place.
- Project Management experience.
- Experience carrying out Water Quality Monitoring. 
- Hydrological analysis for catchments, including experience of flood or water resource modelling (experience of AQUATOR modelling would be beneficial).
- Confident with CAR requirements, GWDTE and PWS planning requirements (for Environmental Statements).
- An understanding of peatland hydrology would be beneficial.
- Previous work within a consultancy or public sector environment.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage commercial aspects of projects.
- A proactive and flexible approach.
- Confident business development.
- Chartered member of CIWEM or BHS would be beneficial.
- A degree in Hydrology, River Management, Water Resources.
- A further Master’s degree in Engineering Hydrology, River & Coastal Engineering, Water Resources Technology etc.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.

MacArthur Green is based in Glasgow. However, we are delighted to offer remote and flexible working. Please note that the role will involve some field requirements.
