Principal Sustainability Consultant 

CarbonPlan are seeking a capable sustainability consultant to project manage and deliver BREEAM assessments as well as develop sustainable solutions for our corporate clients and to help grow the business. The successful candidate will report into the Managing Director.  

Location:

The role will be based on the Milton Business Park in Abingdon near Didcot in our satellite office with regular travel to Leeds for business meetings. 

Salary:

£36,500 + benefits 

General description:

The successful applicant will need to have a strong background in and sound understanding of social, environmental and sustainability issues regarding the construction sector as well as a broader understanding of the corporate social responsibility needs of large corporate businesses. The role involves being the key point of contact for a large number of client projects, ensuring an ongoing professional relationship is maintained by effective project management and the effective delivery of sustainability services to clients. This will involve:

• Co-ordinating assessments and certifications including:

o Planning Applications
o BREEAM Assessments and associated services
o Life Cycle Costing and Life Cycle Carbon Assessments (IMPACT)
o EPC’s and minimum energy performance standards

• Proposing and negotiating fees with new and existing clients
• Presenting at conferences and contributing to sustainability related publications
• Developing new innovative sustainability service offerings
• Building upon current workload and staff to grow a team of sustainability consultants delivering BREEAM and other sustainability services.  

Key qualities (essential): 

The successful candidate will need to have the following qualifications: 

• Certified  BREEAM AP / Sustainability Champion 
• Certified BREEAM Assessor
• Masters or higher degree in a construction related field with a focus on sustainability

They must also be able to demonstrate that they have the technical ability and social skills to:

• Produce technical BREEAM reports 
• Deliver client facing BREEAM feasibility meetings (Stage 1 and Stage 2) in simple and comprehensible language and then deliver a strategy for that client or project
• Deliver IMPACT assessments in line with BREEAM requirements 
• Deliver client facing consultancy services, determining expectations and achieving deliverables
• Manage several projects simultaneously while managing a team of internal consultants and external contract consultants
• Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders on sustainability and economic issues

This is a complex role and as can be seen from the requirements successful applicant will need to have the  following attributes: 

• Adapt to constantly evolving market conditions 
• Practical knowledge of the construction sector and how it works
• Professional skills to deal with tight deadlines and complex client requirements
• Networking skills to develop construction professional contacts
• Record of industry and technical publications/presentations
• Ability to work independently with little or no guidance
• Experience of working in construction/sustainability sector
• Be a swift problem-solver with imagination and initiative
• Be a good communicator with the ability to dissect technical information and understand and explain its applicability at the macro level to teams and clients

Ethically the candidate should be able to show through discussion and in their application that they have a firm commitment to environmental considerations.

We intend to undertake interviews during the weeks starting 4th and 11th of December, however the last interviews will be undertaken in the week commencing 1st January 2018 for any applications that come in just before the closing date that are deemed of a sufficient standard. 

Interviews will be undertaken in either Leeds or Abingdon.
