Senior Consultant – Sustainable Business

Location:

Edinburgh or Glasgow

Hours of work:

Full time, contracted to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, although applications for part time positions may be considered.

Start date:

As soon as possible. An indication of the notice period you are required to work out (if relevant) and your earliest possible start date should be identified in your application.

About the company:

Eunomia Research & Consulting Ltd is an independent and ethical environmental consultancy working primarily in the fields of waste management, resource efficiency, low carbon energy, marine planning and climate change mitigation. We employ around 70 members of staff and have offices in Bristol, London, Manchester, Brussels, Copenhagen, New York and Auckland; working throughout the UK, EU Member States and globally.

We are at the leading edge of a number of areas of environmental policy and practice which are critical in the eyes of governments and front-running businesses: we seek to punch above our weight in terms of influence on public and private sector clients alike. Our goal is to really make a difference, not just a profit, and we seek to keep our own environmental footprint to a minimum, including offering Brompton bikes, offsetting our carbon emissions and supporting local environmental projects.

We are appointed advisors to many types of organisations including the trans-national bodies such as the OECD, UNEP, the European Commission, national governments and departments, local authorities, business support organisations (including Scottish Enterprise, Zero Waste Scotland, WRAP) and numerous blue-chip companies, private equity funds and lenders. Our reputation for staying in touch with – and occasionally ahead of - emerging policy and good practice allows us to efficiently focus our private sector client support and advisory services.

The company offers a stimulating environment that involves a wide variety of cutting-edge research and consultancy work, rewarded by a competitive remuneration package (see below), a supportive and sociable team spirit and knowing that you are making a real difference.

Job description:

We are looking for experienced environmental consultants with at least seven years’ experience supporting businesses to enhance their resource efficiency (RE) and sustainability, including circular economy (CE) opportunities, and related policy work. You will probably be used to managing several projects simultaneously, and leading small teams of more junior staff. You will be able to demonstrate an excellent network of contacts within the Scottish and wider UK/international business and business support communities. You will be comfortable – and have a demonstrable track record – of undertaking proactive business development activities, as well as responding to tender briefs. The role would be mainly UK-based, but may involve international work from time to time, for example, in the rest of Europe and in the USA.

It is important that you have a detailed, strategic understanding of both the policy and business contexts, and the related challenges facing businesses, and you will have provided practical advice and support in helping them to address these in the past. The ability to identify and introduce efficiency savings and new business models is especially important. We are looking for a creative problem solver who is also an excellent communicator: you need to have the aptitude to see where the underlying problems lie and the communication skills to be able to articulate these insights in a clear and persuasive fashion, even where the client may have a slightly different perspective.

Key activities:

The type of work is expected to include:

• Delivery of environmental business support and policy work across a range of RE and CE-related subject areas;
• Project management activities (often several projects at once):
o Liaison with the Project Director on strategic project issues;
o Assignment of team responsibilities;
o Creating and delivering project work plans and revising as appropriate;
o Project team and client communications;
o Ensuring timely technical project input is received from technical leads;
o Coordination and delivery of tasks and key outputs in order to meet the required outcomes of the project; and
o Regular financial tracking, reporting and initiating corrective actions.
• Report writing in a clear and attractive format;
• Presentation of results;
• Identifying and pursuing business development activities in a proactive way;
• Bid writing and pitching to potential clients; and
• Line management of junior consultancy staff.
